Red Bull Junior drivers Liam Lawson and Dennis Hauger join Hitech GP in the 2020 FIA Formula 3 Championship.
Hitech GP finalise 2020 FIA Formula 3 line-up, with Liam Lawson and Dennis Hauger as their final entries. The Red Bull junior drivers will join Renault Sport Academy driver Max Fewtrell in the upcoming FIA Formula 3 Championship in a three-car campaign.
Debuting in the FIA Formula 3 Championship, 16 year-old Norwegian Dennis Hauger joins the team on the back of a strong season in the Italian F4 Championship having secured the 2019 driver’s title, alongside a campaign in the 2019 Euroformula Open Championship and a runner-up position in the ADAC Formula 4. In 2018, the junior talent took his place in the Red Bull Junior Team and F4 British Championship, finishing 2nd in the Rookie Championship.
Joining the Hitech line-up will be Kiwi ace Lawson, who started in karting at the age of seven, clinching honours in several championships across New Zealand. Stepping up to single-seaters in 2015, Lawson has won in every category he has raced: Formula First, Formula Ford, Formula 4, Formula 3 Asia and the Toyota Racing Series, where he also gained the title in 2019. Lawson retains his Red Bull Junior team driver status in 2020 as he joins Hitech in the 2020 FIA F3 Championship.
The 2020 FIA Formula 3 calendar sees pre-season testing continue at Bahrain International Circuit on 1st – 3rd March, before the first round kicks off on the 20th – 22nd March at the same venue.
Liam Lawson reflected on the signing in FIA Formula 3 with Hitech GP:
“I saw last year just how strong Hitech are, it’s a great team to be involved with. I had my year gaining experience last season, there was a lot to learn including how to manage the tyres etc., and it is time to make use of that now. We want to be winning races and pushing hard for the championship. Of course it is an incredibly competitive series, there is no doubt it will be tough but the goal is certainly top three.”
Dennis Hauger added:
“I’m super excited to start 2020 with Red Bull and Hitech GP. It’s a new step in my career and I cannot wait for the season to start and to work hard for our achievements! I would like to thank the team for this opportunity!”
Hitech Grand Prix Team Principal, Oliver Oakes, commented:
“We are really pleased to have both Dennis and Liam join us in F3 this year and to continue our partnership with Red Bull for a further season, retaining the trust from them to work with their talented drivers. Their ability behind the wheel has continually impressed us so we’re looking forward to a successful season ahead.”
