Kaylen Frederick to race with Hitech in 2022 FIA F3 Championship

Hitech Grand Prix are pleased to announce that Kaylen Frederick will join them in the 2022 FIA Formula 3 Championship. The 19-year-old joins the team with several accolades, including the BRDC British Formula 3 title in 2020, becoming the first American to claim victory in the series.

Frederick will return to the Formula 1 support series in his second season, which encompasses a total of nine rounds across Europe. The young racer is the second driver to be announced in Hitech’s FIA F3 line-up for 2022, alongside Red Bull junior Isack Hadjar, with the third driver to be revealed in due course.

In his first year racing abroad in 2019, Frederick was able to gain solid experience in BRDC British F3, tallying two wins, four podiums, two pole positions and three fastest laps. In the 2021 BRDC F3 title chase, Frederick claimed a stunning twelve podiums including nine wins. The young driver was almost unbeatable towards the end of the year claiming four wins in the final six races of the season and also became the first American driver to win the British F3 Championship, the Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup with eight pole positions and the Jim Clark Trophy for the most Outstanding BRDC F3 driver.

Frederick stepped up to the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2021 and looks to build on successful post-season testing with the Hitech team last December, as he makes the switch to compete full-time with the British outfit in 2022.

Frederick reflected on the signing:

“I am thrilled to race with Hitech GP for the 2022 FIA F3 season. HiTech have an established presence among many championships and a solid platform to build for success. We had a strong post-season test in Valencia and have continued to develop our working relationship.”

“Speaking further regarding his new team, Kaylen Frederick said, “The entire team has been helpful in getting me acclimated to the new environment, so I am feeling super comfortable and confident heading into this year. I also would like to thank Pilot ONE Racing for their long-standing support which has allowed us to realize this great opportunity together.  We have a great foundation under us with which to show our abilities. The season has an exciting calendar so I can’t wait to get started.”

Hitech’s General Manager Jay Davenport welcomed Kaylen Frederick into the Hitech family and expects him to put his experience to good use when competitive action gets underway next month.

“We are really pleased to have Kaylen join us for the 2022 season, he produced a strong performance driving a Hitech car at the Valencia test at the end of last season and we are eager to see him carry this form over into the coming race season.” said Davenport.

“We have been working hard over the winter break fine-tuning our cars and our approach and we are keen to get back to business on track in Bahrain next month.”
