Hitech GP confirm Renault Sport Academy driver Max Fewtrell for 2020 FIA Formula 3 Championship

Renault Sport Academy driver Max Fewtrell joins Hitech GP in the 2020 FIA Formula 3 Championship. The 20-year-old British driver will join the British outfit in the upcoming FIA Formula 3 Championship in what is set to be a thrilling season, featuring nine rounds as a support category for Formula One.

Fewtrell will fill a seat in a three-car line up in car #4, fresh off the back of an impressive season in the 2019 FIA Formula 3 Championship, in which he finished 10th in the drivers’ standings. He will return to the grid this time with Silverstone-based Hitech, runners up of last seasons’ FIA F3 campaign. Fewtrell’s first experience of Hitech machinery was in the Valencia post-season tests, ahead of driving for the team at the FIA F3 World Cup in Macau, where he finished 18th.

Fewtrell enters a fourth successive season with the Renault Sport Academy in 2020, which he joined through virtue of winning the British F4 Championship in 2016. The Briton claimed his second championship victory in 2018 after sealing the Formula Renault Eurocup at the final round in Barcelona. That added to his impressive rookie outing in 2017, when he picked up the rookie title after finishing 6th overall.

The 2020 FIA Formula 3 season will get underway with pre-season testing at Bahrain International Circuit on 1st – 3rd March, before the first round kicks off on the 20th – 22nd March at the same venue.

Max Fewtrell reflected on the signing in Formula 3 with Hitech GP:

“I’m ready for this next challenge in the FIA Formula 3 Championship with Hitech and I’m grateful for this opportunity. I learnt a lot of things in Formula 3 last year and I’ll be aiming to put that all into practice with some excellent results in 2020. It’s really good to be with a British team again. Last time I drove for a British team I won a title, so we’ll be looking to make it click this year and do the same. It’s also a positive to be part of the Renault Sport Academy for a fourth season and I’m looking forward to using their support and experience through the year. It’s not long until it all begins and I’m ready to get back behind the wheel.”

Hitech GP Team Principal, Oliver Oakes, commented:

“We are really pleased to announce Max as our first signing for the 2020 FIA Formula 3 Championship. I have followed his career for a few years now and he is an exciting talent. It’s great to have him join us in our F3 line-up this year and we are looking forward to taking him under our wing and fighting at the front. We are looking forward to continuing our relationship and the trust placed in Hitech by the Renault Driver Academy to work with their talented youngsters.”
