Nazim Azman steps up to FIA F3 with Hitech Grand Prix
Hitech are delighted to announce Nazim Azman in the 2022 FIA F3 Championship. Azman will partner Red Bull junior Isack Hadjar, alongside former British F3 Champion Kaylen Frederick in the team’s three-car line-up.
The Malaysian worked his way through the F3 category over the past three seasons, contesting the British and EuroFormula Open championships, and will now make his debut in the F1 support series in the third-highest rung of the international open-wheel racing ladder with Hitech.
Nazim’s impressive track record saw him take fifth overall in 2020 BRDC British Formula 3, claiming two wins and eight podiums. The following year, Azman finished fourth in the 2021 EuroFormula Open series, highlighted by a maiden victory at the Red Bull Ring to add to the four wins and ten podiums he took in Britain.
The 2022 FIA F3 calendar kicks off with pre-season testing in Bahrain between 2-4 March, before the full season gets underway at the end of March at the same venue. The championship encompasses nine rounds across Europe in what is set to be a thrilling season of wheel-to-wheel action.
“I’m really excited to be stepping up to the FIA F3 series with Hitech GP,” Nazim commented, “The team is an established race and championship winner in the F3 category and will provide me with the perfect platform from which to focus on racing against some of the best young talent in the world. I’m looking forward to racing in Bahrain again, visiting some of the most iconic circuits in Europe — some of which I am already familiar with and others that will be new to me. I can’t deny that this is a big step up for me but, having raced — and won — in both the British and EuroFormula Open series, I believe that I am ready for the challenge.”
Jay Davenport, Hitech’s FIA F3 Team Manager, added: “We are delighted to have Nazim join the team for the 2022 FIA F3 Championship. He has a competitive track record, and we aim to give him a package to do the same this season. We have been working hard over the winter and we are keen to get back to business on track in Bahrain.”
