Luke Browning secured fourth place and a crucial 12-point haul in Sunday’s Feature Race, rewarding a closely-fought Round 3 of the FIA Formula 3 Championship in Imola. Martinius Stenshorne finished 10th on track but lost out on the points-paying position following a penalty application. Cian Shields finished in P18.
Starting from ninth on the grid, Luke commenced an early assault on the cars ahead. By lap three he was running seventh before executing a move on Beganovic into the first chicane to take sixth. Side by side with Lindblad into Turn 2, in the heat of the duel Beganovic was able to slip back through. That advantage was short-lived when Luke retook the Swedish driver with the DRS advantage on lap nine.
Next, Luke relegated Lindblad down the order to take fifth position into the first chicane with DRS, then moved into fourth on Lap 14 ahead of Ramos, ensuring he was able to keep his key championship rival Fornaroli in sight.
Finishing the race in P4, Luke secures valuable points with which to remain in the thick of the title hunt, and the result provided some reward after yesterday’s Sprint Race ended with a DNF, while Cian finished in P19 with Martinius in P22.
Luke now sits in second place in the championship on 49 points while Hitech GP move up a place to fourth in the teams’ standings.
During the weekend, the team and drivers joined the touching tribute to Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger in the build-up to the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. Their legacy still guides the direction of the sport and inspires the ambitions of today’s aspiring racers.
